- Thanks to Donna and Joe Silverstein's charitable gift annuity, they contributed funds toward the Edward de Bono and Lynn Marqulis scholarships and made it possible for two qualifying UAT students to study abroad for a semester in Paris, France.
IMPACT ON STUDENTS
In many ways, scholarships are integral to the university. Student scholarships make a UAT education possible for innovative, creative, ambitious and intellectual students to study here who would otherwise lack the funding to do so. With a coveted UAT degree in hand, our students go on to tackle and overcome some of the world's biggest challenges.
SEE THE IMPACT
- Sara Wakeman was awarded UAT's Innovator Scholarship for addressing a real-world need with her innovation - a game controller for the visually impaired. Thanks to community support, Sara was able to put the $1,000 she received toward her continuing education.
- Innovation could be Ryan Carmain's middle name. It has garnered the alumnus some well-deserved awards—even before he graduated in 2012 in Robotics and Embedded Systems. He co-developed a 3'x3' LED cube with another student and they both received $1,000 UAT's Artistic Innovator Scholarship. He also won first place in the Avnet Tech Games Solar Scrimmage with his solar powered water pump and was awarded a $1,000 scholarship.
Ryan's story is particularly noteworthy because he also has a history of giving back to UAT…and the world. While he was still a student, he was an LEC Tutor at UAT, where he helped students who were struggling in various technology areas, such as Robotics and Programming. Soon after graduation, he was an instructor at Barton's Summer Academy in Beijing, China, for one month, where he taught robotics, rocketry, math and English to Chinese students in grades 2 through 9. Today, he is a Plant Engineer at Chrysler Group in Kokomo, Indiana.
